Career Highlights
Flutist Lisa Wolynec has built a career as an engaging performer and dynamic teacher.
She is passionate about creating meaningful musical experiences for audiences and students alike.
Performing
At home with repertoire from the Baroque period to the modern-day, Lisa began her career as a winner of the NFA Orchestral Competition and semi-finalist in the NFA Young Artist Competition. As winner of the Texas Flute Society Concerto Competition, she performed as soloist with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra. Other highlighted orchestral appearances include with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra, with whom she premiered the Flute Concerto by Lee Hoiby, and the Paducah Symphony Orchestra.
Her performances have been heard across the country live and broadcast on numerous NPR stations and the CBC.
Whether playing with an orchestra such as the acclaimed Gateway Chamber Orchestra or the Paducah Symphony, collaborating in concerts with friends and colleagues such as British flutist William Bennett, or performing transcriptions of string quartets for chamber music recitals, Lisa’s performances are praised for their nuances in tone color, depth of expression and her sensitivity to the musical line.
Teaching
As a sought-after pedagogue, Lisa’s teaching utilizes a personal approach that emphasizes providing students with the necessary skills, insights and motivation so that students can take ownership of their musical development, discover their personal musical voice, and become independent musicians.
Utilizing an individualized curriculum, Lisa helps students develop unfailing fundamental flute skills while guiding them to discover their musical expression. This is achieved in an environment where expectations are set very high but where students feel confident to explore, learn, make mistakes and ultimately succeed beyond their expectations. Her students grow and become not just good flutists, but great musical artists.
Her students have been successful in competitions, participated in prominent flute festivals and masterclasses, attended prestigious graduate schools and enjoy careers in music. Lisa’s teaching has reached beyond her studio and includes engaging with students in lessons and masterclasses at high schools, colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
Flute Community
Lisa enjoys creating flute communities by bringing flutists together who can learn from and engage with one another and be inspired by the experience. This interest began when she was competition chair of the Mid-South Flute Society. During her tenure as Program Chair and President, she endeavored to ensure that all levels of flutists benefitted from distinctive programming.
At Austin Peay State University, she has hosted 10-day mini-residencies with William Bennett, Lorna McGhee and Rhonda Larsen, who came to campus as Acuff Chair Holders. The William Bennett residency led to the formation of the week-long William Bennett Summer Academy of which she is the Director and teaching assistant.
Additionally, she has organized numerous Flute Days, the most recent being virtual with Denis Bouriakov, which had more than 300 attendees from 5 continents.
The “APSU Flutes Go Irish” Instagram contest attracted flutists across the country who flaunted their Irishness by performing their favorite Irish tunes while donned in their Irish best.
